SMJH names students of month, plans for October

The students of the month for September were named by St. Michael Junior High, and plans are in place by the SRC for a busy month to come.

The students of the month include Brenna Moser, Carly Miller, Paige Grams, Dylan McNaughton, Keely St. Onge, Erika Babiarz and Jessica Pyett.

The SRC is being led by Erika Babiarz for 2004-05, and their first dance of the year will be on Friday, Oct. 15. A number of theme days have also been put in place for October.

Members of the SRC also had the opportunity to attend the provincial SRC conference held in Moose Jaw.

The St. Michael Parents Association held their first meeting on Sept. 21, and finalized their executive and room parents. Their next meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the school library.

Volleyball is the main sport for the school currently, with both boys and girls teams doing well so far in the season. Both teams were in a tournament at Fillmore on Sept. 18, with the boys winning the overall title and the girls coming in second.

The Tigers hosted their own tournament on the Sept. 24-25 weekend, with teams from Assiniboia, Fillmore, Radville and Weyburn taking part. Radville won the boys side with St. Michael taking second, and on the girls' side the Weyburn Junior High Cobras won first and SMJH took second.

The boys team is being coached this year by Randy Morrison and Mr. Fellner, while the girls are being coached by Rick Bell and Al Kimber.

The school has welcomed new staff members, Valene Wiles, Cheryl Anderson and Deanne Miller-Jones.

At the Terry Fox Run held on Sept. 10, the school raised $500 towards cancer research.

Coming up this month there will be Education Week activities the week of Oct. 18-22, and the school will also be involved in the annual United Way Communithon on Oct. 22-23.
