EnCana Wings increase winning streak to eight

The Weyburn Midget EnCana Wings extended their winning streak to eight games this week, as they defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 4-2 on Wednesday and the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-1 on Sunday.

On Wednesday, the Wings outshot the Hounds 38-23. Three of their goals were on power plays.

Blake Holland opened for the Wings in the first period, assisted by Jesse Niemegeers.

Eric Calibaba and Preston Shupe notched two more goals in the second. Troy Miller and Adam Stepp assisted Calibaba, and Ray Cugnet assisted Shupe.

Cugnet then scored the final goal in the third period, assisted by Miller and Shupe.

Bucky Schneider was in net for Weyburn.

On Sunday, the Wings fought a penalty-laden match against Moose Jaw; the two teams combined for over 100 minutes of penalties, including four fighting majors.

The Wings were scoreless in the first period but picked up two goals in the second, scored by Shupe and Calibaba. Niemegeers, Shupe and Miller assisted.

In the third, Stepp, Cugnet and Derek Stainbrook all scored unassisted.

Weyburn outshot Moose Jaw 39-23. Brent Ruckaber was in net for Weyburn.

The EnCana Wings' next home game is this Sunday, Oct. 31, against Balgonie.
