Comp SRC busy with fund-raisers

The Weyburn Comprehensive School's SRC held their first dance in the gym on Friday with a Halloween theme. The student council also had a number of fund-raisers for the Weyburn United Way's Communithon, including penny wars and a "Battle of the Bands" throughout the week.

Due to the recent Tommy Douglas play, held from Wednesday through Saturday in the Cafetorium, and the Credit Union's Cavalcade coming up, the WCS drama department was unable to stage a fall production. Instead the drama and music departments will stage a Christmas Extravaganza on Dec. 7 and 9. Reserved tickets will go on sale in mid-November.

This coming weekend's highlights include the start of the Cavalcade and a volleyball tournament.

The Weyburn Credit Union will host an invitation-only presentation of the Diamond Cavalcade on Saturday, Oct. 30 in the Cafetorium, and the public performance of this musical will be presented the following weekend on Nov. 5 and 6.

The senior girls volleyball team will host their second tournament of the year on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29 and 30. The senior boys volleyball squad will play in a tournament in Balgonie this weekend.

Over the past weekend, the senior girls placed fifth in a tournament in Saskatoon, while the junior boys won a tournament in Lumsden.

The girls soccer team lost in the semi-finals to Caronport 2-0 in the Moose Jaw High School League playoffs, but the team did defeat Yorkton Sacred Heart to advance to the provincial SHSAA playoffs, to be held in Moose Jaw this weekend.

The Comp football team posted their fourth straight win by defeating Regina Usher, and will take on Notre Dame in the quarter-final playoffs for the Regina High School Football League.
