Their winning streak and their season came to an end last week, as the Comp Eagles football team lost 20-3 to the Luther Lions in playoff action on Nov. 2. The Lions took a strong two-touchdown lead in the first and second quarters, and then had another touchdown in the fourth quarter. Weyburn didn't get on the scoreboard until the second quarter, when Brett Anderson kicked a 15-yard field goal. Offensively, the Eagles and Lions ran a similar game, though the Lions had more yardage on their passing offensive and slightly more on their rushing game. This was the semi-final match for the Regina Intercollegiate Football League (RIFL) playoffs. Luther went to face Regina Miller in the city final on Monday. This was one of the best seasons in several years for the Comp Eagles, as they celebrated a five-game winning streak. Their last victory was on Oct. 27, when they crushed the Notre Dame Hounds 17-10. That was the first round of the RIFL playoffs, and Weyburn's first playoff win in several seasons. Most notably, the Eagles also scored three straight victories this season where they did not surrender any points defensively, starting with a 6-2 victory over F.W. Johnson on Sept. 26. A similar result came against Regina Martin on Oct. 7, who lost 17-2 to the Eagles; Weyburn finished off the streak by downing the Notre Dame Hounds 3-0. |
