Four members of the Soo Line Boxing Club in Weyburn won gold medals in their weight classes at the Boxing Saskatchewan Provincial Championships in Regina over the weekend. Dean Hodgkin, weighing 165 lbs., fought as a senior novice middleweight. In his first match, he defeated Ryan Wondler of Edam by a second-round RSC (referee-stops-contest), and then went on to defeat Don Derosier of Saskatoon in the finals. Attley Roettger, weighing 152 lbs, fought in the open intermediate (18 and under) class. He defeated Adrian Edwards of Edam to win the gold medal in his class. His bout was voted the best fight of the tournament. Joel Franks and Evan Nyhus, weighing 142 lbs. and 165 lbs. respectively, were entered in the open intermediate class. They were unopposed and won gold medals by default. By winning provincials, Franks, Roettger and Nyhus will be going to the Intermediate Nationals in Brampton, Ont., in February of 2005. |
