SADD raising awareness of impaired driving

Kylie Sabados and Sarah Punter, both members of the Comp School's SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving), show the wall of hands the group put up in a hallway to help raise awareness about the problem of impaired driving. Hands from every student and staff member in the school are up, and using the average statistic that 4.5 Canadians are killed each day by drunk drivers, hands are picked at random each day and turned over to the black side to denote another death. SADD members were also recently signing up students and parents for a contract against drunk driving.

Cheering for the Greatest Canadian

People visiting the T.C. Douglas Centre on Monday night stand up in their seats and cheer at the conclusion of the "Greatest Canadian" contest on CBC-TV, of which former Saskatchewan Premier Tommy Douglas was the winner. Over 60 people turned out to watch Douglas be crowned as the Greatest Canadian, beating out frontrunners Terry Fox and Pierre Trudeau for the coveted title. Monday's announcement wrapped up six weeks of intense campaigning by advocates of the 10 candidates for Greatest Canadian; MuchMusic VJ George Stroumboulopoulos appeared in a documentary advocating Douglas for the Greatest Canadian back in mid-October.
