Sisters Kelsey and Jayme Nagy of Weyburn are off this week to compete at the Western Canadian Championships in figure skating at Mississauga, Ont.

The competition begins Thursday, Dec. 2, though Kelsey and Jayme will be done by Friday. The Nagys are competing in the pre-novice division; within each division, 24 skaters from around Western Canada will be competing.

Jayme and Kelsey qualified for the Westerns by competing at Skate Saskatchewan Sectionals, which were held in early November.

Kelsey placed first and Jayme placed third in their division. It was the first time two sisters had been on the podium at the same time out of Sectionals.

If they place within the top eight of their division out of the Western Canadian Championships, Kelsey and Jayme will qualify for Junior Nationals in Quebec.

Kelsey, the older sister, was at the Western Canadian Championships last season. The year before, she competed at the Junior Nationals.
