by ISABELLE EAGLESHAM, Soo Line Historical Museum Curator

As we approach the year 2005, it is rather interesting to look back over the years since the museum opened after the formation of the Soo Line Historical Society.

Bringing in the original building from north of Weyburn in 1960 where we remained until around 1968 or 1969, I have forgotten the exact date, but it was a big step forward.

The acquiring of the fabulous silver collection of Charlie Wilson was another big step in the years of the museum.

With no money to finance our operation, several of us signed our names to for a loan to get the operation going. Many hours of volunteer work was done and is still being done, although we are able to hire permanent staff.

Over the years we have received bank loans, donations from various people and while we had the auditorium we were able to hold fund-raising functions. Bingo in the old bingo hall on Second Street was a blessing for us, but neither places are now available, so we have no place to hold money-raising events.

So what does this lead up to? A not-very subtle suggestion that perhaps as you clear up your year-end books, you might consider making a donation to the museum since we are short of funds for operating the museum.

Acquiring the fabulous Charlie Wilson silver collection means the room we used for events is no longer available for that purpose; so, on bended knee, we appeal to the public for donations to help finance your museum. After the not-so-subtle request for money, we leave you with the following: do have a very Merry Christmas one and all, from all of us to all of you.
