Weyburn Rotary Club makes donation to S.E. Asia

The Weyburn Rotary Club recently designated $3,000 of its international project money to Rotary Foundation Canada's Solidarity in Asia Relief Fund, to help the area devastated by the tsunami disaster.

The club also agreed to match members' contributions of up to $2,000 for the fund. This matching money will come from the proceeds of the recently-completed fudge and nut trays that were sold prior to Christmas. The response to this fund-raising event was tremendous.

One of Rotary International's on-going projects is to provide safe drinking water for peoples around the world, so it is expected that much of the money will go to restoring clean drinking water in the affected area.

The Club also has decided to discontinue its annual Polkafest. The project had been a very successful venture in the beginning but over the past number of years attendance and revenue has continued to decline.

The club felt the returns to help various projects has reached a point that the volunteer time required to organize it didn't result in appropriate returns.
