Youngfellows score two wins off Moose Mountain

The Weyburn Peewee AA Youngfellow Wings thrashed the Moose Mountain Wild in a home-and-away series this weekend.

The Youngfellow Wings first shut out the Wild 5-0 on Saturday in Carlyle, with Nathan Ferris earning the shutout in goal. Weyburn outshot the Wild 42-16.

Nathan Murray led Weyburn with one goal and two assists, while Jackson Schneider, Linden Lang, Cody Miller and Tanner Dusyk scored single goals.

Reid Jackson had two assists, while Clinton Pirio, Mitchell Morrison and Ryan Murray had single assists.

The Youngfellow Wings then clobbered Moose Mountain 10-4 in Weyburn on Sunday.

Brent Benson led the way with three goals and four assists, though Jaden Schwartz tied him for points with two goals and five assists.

John Cugnet had one goal and four assists. Nathan Murray and Jackson Wagner had one goal and one assist each. RJ Arts and Morrison added the remaining goals. Jackson and Lang contributed single assists. Brad Mryglod got the victory in goal. Weyburn outshot Moose Mountain 48-13.

On the Jan. 8-9 weekend, the Youngfellow Wings also scored two wins against the Moose Jaw Warriors, defeating them 8-3 and 10-3.

In the first game, Schwartz led the scoring with three goals, while Benson added two goals and one assist. Murray had one goal and one assist, while Miller added two assists. Cugnet and Murray added single goals, while Carter Struthers, Schneider and Wagner had single assists.

Brad Mryglod got the win in net for the Wings. The shot tally was 45-18 in Weyburn's favour.

In the second game, Benson led the attack with three goals and two assists, followed by Jackson with one goal and three assists, and Nathan Murray with two goals. Tanner Dusyk and Ryan Murray added single goals. Pirio, Walbaum, Schneider, Rogan Milatz and Arts had single assists.

Ferris got the win in goal. Weyburn outshot Moose Jaw 42-19. Coach Wes Cugnet said, "We are playing very well as a team. The (Wings) are playing a full 60 minutes every game, with no let-up."

In league action, the Wings' next game is on Sunday, Jan. 23, when they travel to Torquay to play Estevan. They will also compete in the Regina Coca-Cola Classic Tournament from Jan. 27-30.

Wings win first prov'l round

The Youngfellow Wings also trounced the Swift Current Broncos last week to win the first round of Saskatchewan Hockey Association provincial playoffs. Weyburn's defence dominated the series, as Milatz, JJ Wagner, Jackson, Ryan Murray, Arts and Struthers aided the goaltenders to shut down Swift Current's offence.

The Youngfellow Wings won Game 1 of the two-game series by a score of 4-0. Ferris received the shutout.

Morrison, Benson, Struthers and Schneider each scored goals. Lang, Cugnet, Schwartz, Wagner and Benson all had assists.

Weyburn then won the second game 6-1 in Swift Current. Schwartz led the Wings with two goals and one assist, while Miller and Benson added one goal and one assist. The remaining goals came from Dusyk and Lang, while Cugnet, Milatz, Morrison, Nathan Murray and Struthers had single assists. Mryglod received the win in net.

Weyburn's next opponent in the provincial series is Moose Jaw, who visited Weyburn last night, Jan. 18, for the first game.

Game 2 of the series will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 25, in Moose Jaw.
