SMJH to have 20 entries to Weyburn Music Festival

Many areas of activity are in full swing at St. Michael Junior High, including the band department which is gearing up for the upcoming Weyburn Music Festival.

Band teacher Judy Holyer said the school will have 20 entries at this year's festivals, including the concert band, jazz band, junior band and numerous solos and duets. All of these performances will take place the week of March 7-11.

A number of the soloists will be accompanied by SMJH teacher Mary Heier.

The SRC is also quite busy, planning a Skittle Week on Jan. 31-Feb. 4, with a school dance on Feb. 4 from 7-11 p.m. During skittle week, students and staff will dress in a different colour each day.

In sports, the basketball season is well underway, with both the boys and girls teams taking part in tournaments and games , coached by Denis Tremblay and Mrs. Scrupps respectively. There is also a B boys team coached by former student Sara Giroux, and the girls B team is coached by Mary Heier. The boys travelled with the girls A team to Fillmore for their first game, and the B girls were in Radville for their first tournament.

The school's cheerleading club and drama club are both actively practicing.

There have been changes made in the foyer to St. Michael school, as the statue of St. Michael has been relocated to the library and a new crucifix installed in its place.

Upcoming at the school is an information meeting on crystal meth on Monday, Jan. 31 at 2:15 p.m.
