EnCana Wings win twice at home after road losses

The Weyburn EnCana Midget Wings scored two wins in their past four games this week.

The Wings won both of their home games on Sunday against Moose Jaw and Notre Dame. Against Moose Jaw, the Wings managed a 5-3 victory, after gaining a 1-0 lead in the first period and then racking up four goals in the second.

Devon Johnson added two goals for Weyburn, while Adam Stepp, Will Morris and Troy Miller added singles. Miller and Shaun Seghers each had two assists, while goalie Bucky Schneider, Eric Calibaba, Kyle Haines and Brett Anderson had assists.

Against Notre Dame, the Wings won 7-2. Miller and Derek Stainbrook scored goals in the first period, followed by Morris, Raymond Cugnet and Travis Roberts in the second period. Morris also had a goal in the third period.

Johnson, Haines and Calibaba each assisted twice, while Morris, Jesse Niemegeers, Blake Holland, Adam Stepp and Evan Schultz had single assists. Brent Ruckaber goaltended this match for Weyburn.

Both of Weyburn's losses prior to the weekend occurred on the road.

The Wings lost on Friday to the Melville Millionaires 4-2, after Melville racked up four goals in the second period. Weyburn managed two goals in the third; the first shorthanded goal was scored by Johnson and the second by Cody Cossar, converting a power play.

Cugnet received an assist. Ruckaber and Schneider shared goaltending duties, with Ruckaber getting switched out in the second period.

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, the Wings lost 4-2 to Whitewood. Johnson and Haines scored goals for Weyburn, with Calibaba, Stepp, Schultz and Holland receiving assists.

The EnCana Wings play the first game of the second round of provincials tonight, Feb. 2, in Caronport. Game 2 is scheduled for Feb. 9 in Weyburn, meaning that the regularly scheduled game that night against Notre Dame has been moved to Feb. 17.

The Wings also play two league games at home against Swift Current this weekend. They play at 7:45 p.m. in the Tom Zandee Sports Arena on Saturday, Feb. 5, and on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. in the Weyburn Colosseum.
