Saluting fallen comrades

Former and current RCMP officers gather on Thursday afternoon in Weyburn to honour four fellow officers killed in the line of duty at Mayerthorpe, Alta., on March 3. The four officers were Peter Schiemann, Leo Johnston, Anthony Gordon and Brock Myrol. The officers above are, from left, retired Cpl. Larry Edwards, retired S/Sgt. Cal Vatamaniuck, Const. Richard Price, Const. Sharri Mann, and retired Sgt. Ed Kuhn. City police, the Legion and the public also attended the ceremony, one of many occurring on Thursday across Canada, including the national memorial service in Edmonton.

Lining up for the national anthem

The starting line of the Canadian Women's Selects gathers on the ice at the Colosseum to hear the national anthem, just prior to facing the U.S. Selects in the "Battle of the Border" X-Treme Women's Hockey Challenge. Playing in front of a packed house, the Canadian squad, which consisted of many veterans of the 2002 Winter Olympics, crushed the U.S. team 8-1.
