The board of directors for Weyburn's Heritage Village are excited about a new addition to the village this year, a replica of a RNWMP post being put together by Ed Kuhn. The village held its annual meeting recently, and was told Kuhn has been doing a lot of work in preparing the Royal North West Mounted Police post, the forerunner of today's RCMP. Plans are to have the grand opening for the post during the Wheat Festival activities in early August. The village board would like to also bring in some old granaries and a small barn to the village this year, with the granaries to be used as small shops, such as to demonstrate leather working. Board member Marlene Nedelcov said the village will have need for several volunteers this year, and would appreciate any help people might be willing to provide. Volunteers are needed for the annual Heritage Day, held as part of the Wheat Festival in August, or with carpentry and fixing up of the buildings throughout the season. There will be student guides hired for the summer, but they sometimes need volunteer help when groups tour through the facility, said Nedelcov. For those interested in volunteering or helping out at the village at any time, they can attend a village board meeting held on the third Wednesday of each month. The village staff usually begin the first week of May, with the opening of the village depends on weather conditions, and remains open until the end of August. The board members for 2005 include Marlene Nedelcov, Pat Schutz, Murray Keefe, Ed Kuhn, Bev Culbertson and David Carlson. |
