The 11th biennial Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show is nearing sold-out capacity for exhibitors' booths, and the last of the guest speakers has been finalized for the two-day event at the Weyburn exhibition grounds. The show's outdoor booths are sold out with a waiting list, said Ron Jeffery, director and coordinator of the Oil Show, while a handful of indoor booths remain available in both the Colosseum and Sports Arena. "It's going to be an outstanding show," said Jeffery. Normally the Oil Show would be completely sold out by this point, he said, but the hectic activity in the southeast oilpatch means some companies have a shortage of staff who would be available to come to the show. The golf tournament on setup day, on Tuesday, May 31, is completely sold out with a waiting list, said Jeffery, and the steak or lobster dinner will be put on that evening by members of the Weyburn Red Wings. On Wednesday, June 1, the major feature will be the Centennial Anniversary luncheon, with guest speaker Hank Swartout, CEO of Precision Drilling Corp. Premier Lorne Calvert and Industry and Resources minister Eric Cline are also expected to be present, along with the presentation of Saskatchewan Oil Patch Awards by the show's board of governors. The Southeast Sask. Oilman of the Year award will be presented at the evening banquet, put on by the Young Fellows Club. The evening goes from 7 to 9 p.m., and will include a roast for longtime government official Bruce Wilson. "He's been involved with the department of Energy for about 30 years, and he's now assistant deputy minister. Lots of people are wanting to take part in that. He's helped a lot of oilpatch people to get started in the business," said Jeffery. On Thursday, June 2, the Oil Show board has finalized the noon guest speaker as Trent Yanko, CEO of Mission Oil and Gas of Calgary. "He will be speaking on the opportunities in the Williston Basin," said Jeffery, noting that Yanko is originally from Saskatchewan and is quite knowledgeable about the Basin area in the southeast. Also on Thursday will an update on the CO2 projects by both EnCana and Shell at 10 a.m., and at 2 p.m., Enbridge and Seminole will give a presentation on the transportation and marketing of southeast Saskatchewan oil. |
