YAK wants to give city youth a voice

A youth committee dedicated to ensuring youth in Weyburn have a voice has started up at the Weyburn Comprehensive School.

The Youth Advisory Kommittee (YAK) is made up of a combination of adults and youth who want to see youth make a difference.

One of their first projects will be a weekly feature in the Weyburn Review called "Youth Spot", which will highlight youth from Weyburn who are involved in their school and community.

YAK began after a survey was taken at the Comp during the 2003-04 school year. The survey asked students about being a youth in Weyburn, and YAK was formed as a result of the survey responses.

Youths who are involved include Sara Nikolejsin, Ashten Beers, Brenda Zaharia, Alicia Paterson, Candace Shirkie, Steven Biss, Jaynel Mann, Michelle Erickson and Kendell-Jo LaCoste.
