The first-ever Southeast Club Calf Cruze was held May 7 at the Weyburn exhibition grounds, with 29 steers and 24 heifers brought for the show. Organizer Carla Fellner, who ran the show along with husband Mike from the Flying F Ranch, was pleased with the results for the first show, and plan on making it an annual event. The show was judged by James Symens of B.C. The results are as follows: For Steer champions, the grand champion was Nicole McKague of Ogema, and reserve champion was Justin Hall of Craven. For Heifer champions, the grand champion was Amanda Hamilton of Craven, and the reserve champion was Justin Hall of Craven. The People's Choice winners for steer was Craig Gordon of Weyburn, and for heifers, Amanda Hamilton of Craven. The top prize for bred and owned steer went to Nicole McKague of Ogema, and for bred and owned heifer, Justin Hall. For showmanship, junior category (6-10 years), first went to Dallas Moore, second was Kolin Piwarski and third, Daniel Fellner. In the intermediate category (11-15 yrs.), first went to Justin Hall, second to Erin Heppner of Zehner, third to Dakota Jackson of Sedley, and fourth, Chance Jackson of Sedley. In the senior category (16-21 yrs.), first went to Amanda Hamilton, second to Brodie Gutzke of Weyburn, third to Sara Heppner of Zehner, and fourth, Amanda Fornwald of Lampman. For Angus heifers, first went to Kim Tutor of Glentworth; second was Chance Jackson of Sedley; third was Tyler Smyth of Kennedy; fourth was Dakota Jackson of Sedley; fifth, Allan Kyrylchuk of Francis; sixth, Kerri Kyrylchuk of Francis; and seventh, Nadya McKim of Milestone. For Simmental heifers, first was won by Craig Gordon, second was Robert Pineo of Weyburn, third was Nicole McKim of Milestone, and fourth, Megan Chuckry of Weyburn. For Shorthorn heifers, first went to Craig Gordon, and second was Daniel Fellner of Weyburn. For Maine heifers, first went to Amanda Hamilton, second was Justin Hall, third was Tiffany Gutzke of Weyburn, and fourth was Tallie Gutzke of Weyburn. In the All-breeds Heifers class, first place went to Monica Osborn of Weyburn, second was Erin King of Corning, third was Erin Heppner. For the Light-weight Steers class, first went to Justin Hall, second to Brodie Gutzke, and third was Kyler Emde of Midale. For Medium-weight Steers, first went to Nicole McKague, second to Craig Gordon and third was Erin Heppner. For Heavyweight Steers, first went to Casey Claffey of Radville, second to Justin Smyth of Kennedy, and third was Nicole McKim of Milestone, and fourth, Ryley Gutzke of Weyburn. |
