Midget YF wins home tournament

The Weyburn Midget Youngfellows girls' fastball team defeated the Watrous Royals 6-5 in extra innings on Sunday to win the home tournament they hosted over the weekend.

Kelcie McCutcheon hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give Weyburn the winning run.

Earlier in the tournament, Weyburn had lost to Watrous 9-2. "(Getting the victory) was a little redemption in the final," said coach Blake Johnson.

Johnson said Watrous was a very good hitting team, and in their earlier game, everything they hit "seemed to go in the hole."

They were also good in the final game, but Weyburn had a little better defence, he said.

Weyburn also defeated the Regina Rage 4-0, Prince Albert 10-5 and Esterhazy 9-2 during the tournament.

Karly Johnson pitched the shutout against Regina. Karmen Coffey batted over .600 throughout the weekend.

The Youngfellow Midget Girls will be taking a break from games during final exam time.
