White Bear First Nations' annual Powwow July 8-10

The White Bear First Nation annual powwow will be held from Friday, July 8 to Sunday July 10 at the White Bear powwow grounds nine miles north of Carlyle on Highway 9 by Moose Mountain Provincial Park.

Events will begin on Friday at 8 p.m. and continue Saturday, with two grand entries slated for the day. The first grand entry will begin at 1 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m. Dancers will break for supper from 4:30-7 p.m.

Powwow organizer Pat Sheppard said the masters of ceremonies have not yet been finalized, but that Stacey Makesgood of Sisseton, South Dakota will host one of the two evenings. Arena director this year is Dave Sandy from Pipestone, Man.

She said the powwow will feature no specified host drummers this year. Instead, the drumming groups would be chosen from session-to-session.

"We did it like that this year to give some of the younger, more unknown groups some exposure this year."

She added 24-hour-security would be provided again this year, and that concession and craft booths will be set up on the grounds and everyone is welcome. Admission will be free of charge through the entire weekend.
