Plans are underway for the 2005 Weyburn Wheat Festival, which will occur this year in conjunction with the Weyburn Homecoming, on Aug. 5-7. Some of the entertainment for the festival will include a Horticulture show and the Soo Line Historical Museum's Bread Baking contest. A street fair will be held on Friday, Aug. 5 by the Chamber of Commerce. The Signal Hill Arts Centre will be holding their craft show both days. At River Park, there will be an outdoor stage with entertainment. For the kids, there will be a petting zoo and live theatre. Drama Queen Productions is a small theatre company that travels to provincial parks, acting out children's stories. At the Wheat Festival, they will be perfoming "You Are Simply Too Munsch," a drama presentation based on children's author Robert Munsch's stories. You Are Simply Too Munsch is free of admission. Grain-holding facility tours will be given all weekend and the Agriculture Society will be holding a pancake breakfast on the morning of Aug. 5. In the mall, there will be a grain competition. There are already a lot of people entered in the competition. "There are over 100 entries so far," said festival chairperson Donna Hastings. Transportation to events will be supplied with a people mover which will also give tours. Horse and buggy rides will be offered during the festival as well. On Sunday, Aug. 7, their will be a community church service at the Colosseum. There is no admission to most of the Wheat Festival events. |
