Senior Beavers win streak ends with loss to Yorkton

The Weyburn Senior Beavers' three-game winning streak came to an end on July 19 with a 8-6 loss to the Yorkton Cardinals at Tom Laing Park.

Up by one run after the seventh inning, the Beavers gave up two runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth in the losing effort.

Weyburn scored six runs off of 10 hits and three errors while Yorkton scored eight runs off of 13 hits and also committed three errors.

The Beavers had a better game on Thursday against the Moose Jaw Miller Express, winning 10-5 at Tom Laing Park.

Tied 5-5 after five innings, then the Senior Beavers took charge in the sixth inning, scoring five runs off of Moose Jaw pitcher Ryan Riley.

The winning pitcher for Weyburn was Tyrel Hansen, who gave up three hits and no runs in six innings.

On Saturday the Beavers played the Red Deer Generals at Tom Laing Park in a 5-4 loss, which the Beavers had a good chance of winning.

The Sr. Beavers were up by two runs going into the top of the ninth inning when pitcher Bevin Ledingham gave up three runs. Weyburn was not able to recover in the bottom of the inning, only generating one hit. Although he pitched a complete game, Ledingham was the losing pitcher.

Weyburn was able to get four runs off of nine hits and committed one error, while Red Deer scored five runs off of five hits and committed two errors.

Sunday afternoon's game against the Swift Current Indians was the last of a five games at home. The Indians beat up on the Beavers 23-4.

The game started off rocky with Swift Current scoring four in the second inning and they never looked back, including an eight-run seventh inning.

Weyburn used four different pitchers in the game with Cole Reynolds pitching four and a third innings, Kellen Derry pitching two innings, Ryan Friedrich pitching one and a third innings and Mike Larson pitching one inning.

The Beavers scored four runs off of five hits and two errors. Swift Current scored 23 runs on 29 hits and one error.

Weyburn's record is 10 wins and 23 losses with only two more games left in the season.

The schedule for Weyburn's next games have been changed due to the Canada Summer Games. The Beavers played the Regina Red Sox in Regina on Tuesday but scores were not available due to publication deadlines.

Their final game of the season will be against the Regina Red Sox on Thursday, July 28, at Tom Laing Park. The game starts 5:30 p.m., not the regular 7:30 p.m. start time.
