Lt.-Governor's arts pins presented to local residents

Over 80 Weyburn and area residents were recipients of the Lieutenant Governor's Celebration of the Arts in 2005 pins on Thursday, presented by the Weyburn Arts Council in a ceremony at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery.

In a letter to the Arts Council, Lieutenant-Governor Lynda Haverstock said of the pins, "They are in recognition of the many talented individuals who have contributed significantly to the arts in Saskatchewan. Their achievements have truly shaped the vibrant and exciting cultural identity of our province."

In addition to the pins presentation, a Centennial project of the Arts Council was unveiled, a quilt put together by Margo Jacob entitled "Windows to Weyburn." The quilt features several current and historical photos of Weyburn's history, and is bordered by Saskatchewan's dress tartan pattern.

The audience was also informed that this was the last function for curator Helen Mamer, who is moving to Saskatoon with husband Gerry Mamer. Presentations were made on behalf of the City of Weyburn, the Weyburn Arts Council and the Hill Top Painters.
