Don Sealy is fund-raising to move the Sun Country Therapeutic Animal Park from the Souris Valley extended care facility to across the street from Tatagwa View long-term care facility. Sealy has raised $20,000 for the park so far and he is looking for at least another $10,000 in donations. He is hoping to open the park by the end of the year. "It will be finished, hopefully, this year," Sealy said. The new park will be located along the side of the road leading up to Tatagwa View, on the opposite side of the long-term care facility. Sealy felt it was the ideal location because it is shaded by trees and residents at the facility can see the park from the building. Its old location was at the Souris Valley extended care facility but, since it closed, there has been no use for the park. When the park opens to the public, it will be free admission. The fountain that had formerly been at the park at Souris Valley was moved by Sask. Property Management to the front of the courthouse, and visitors will be allowed to throw wishing coins into it. The coins will be taken from the fountain occasionally and put towards the park's expenses. "That is nice because everyone will know that fountain," Sealy said. Sealy is planning on putting six pens in the park with animals such as miniature donkeys, llamas, sheep, goats, ducks and chickens. As money gets raised, Sealy wants to put in a duck pond and hopefully pave the park. Vandalism isn't a concern for Sealy. The park is surrounded by a tall chain-link fence with a locking gate. Four streetlights will be installed as well, so that no one can sneak in during the night. "Anyone who comes in will be lit up," Sealy said. Once the park is open, the hours will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. If anyone would like more information or make a donation can call Sealy. |
