WCS golfers warming up for Districts

The Weyburn Comprehensive School golf team will play a tournament in Midale this Friday, Sept. 9, as a warm-up to the Southeast Districts in Carnduff on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Randy Lueck, who oversees the Comp golf program with Rod Nieviadomy, said it's tough to determine who will be going to districts because golf begins in the spring and ends in the fall at the Comp.

As a result, any Grade 12s in the program are now gone, and a number of Grade 10s have since joined. It's also difficult because many other sports (football, girls' soccer, volleyball) are starting at this same time.

However, out of an estimated 20 students playing golf, there are about four to five females. Because each team going to Districts commonly has two girls, that means they may be able to field a couple teams this year, said Lueck.

At any rate, the Midale tournament will allow a look at the Grade 10s who have joined the program, said Lueck.
