The Weyburn Jr. Eagles football team were narrowly defeated 26-18 by the Regina Razorbacks on Oct. 8. "This was probably our best game of the year," said Jr. Eagles head coach Murray Benson. "Our offence moved the ball extremely well, gaining over 300 yards and our defence was outstanding, especially in the fourth quarter where we stopped them twice on third down gambles. With about two minutes left in the game our defence stopped Regina on the one-yard line. What a gutsy effort." The Offensive Line Game Star was given to wide receiver Ryley Mantei and offensive guard Chad Letkeman for their outstanding blocking. The Defensive Line Game Star went to defensive tackle Alan Baird for his tremendous effort in shutting down the inside running attack of the Razorbacks. The Hustle Awards went to linebacker Carlyle Richard, defensive end Carter Struthers, safety Walid Svedahl and corner back Cody Miller for their efforts in limiting the opposition to four touchdowns. The Offensive Game Star went to quarterback Louis Schnell and fullback Chris Lee for their great offensive skills. The Defensive Game Star went to linebackers Tarek Svedahl and Casey Pirio, who both made numerous tackles and were leaders on the defence. The offense was lead by running back Brent Benson, who gained 189 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 26 yards. Fullback Chris Lee had 59 yards on 10 carries with wide receiver Thomas Bresciani making one catch for 15 yards. Quarterback Louis Schnell carried the ball seven times for 10 yards and completed four of seven passes for 41 yards. The defence was lead by linebackers Tarek Svedahl who made 13 tackles, Casey Pirio who made 11 tackles and Carlyle Richard who made nine tackles. Defensive tackle Alan Baird made seven tackles with defensive end Carter Struthers making six tackles and one quarterback sack. Cornerback Cody Miller made five tackles with safeties Walid Svedahl and Mackenzie Metheral make three tackles each. Kicker Brent Benson and fullback Chris Lee each made two tackles on kickoffs. Tackles Aaron Fletcher, Adam Fletcher, Brady Baumgartner, Alex Bilesky, defensive end Scott Robertson and Brendan Heggs and cornerbacks Levi Thirsk, Tristan Rubin and Kirk Schell each made one tackle or assisted on a tackle. The Jr. Eagles finished with three wins and five losses and in seventh place in the 10-team league and advance to the playoffs against the third place team.
