The Weyburn Comp Eagles Senior girls volleyball won an eight-team tournament over the weekend in Swift Current. With a record of 10-2 after round robin, the girls finished first overall and faced Cutknife in the semi-finals. They were able to easily defeat Cutknife in two sets, 25-22 and 25-16. In the final, the girls played Swift Current, who they met in their home tournament and the Prince Albert tournament. It was a close match, but the girls were able to win in three sets, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-13. The girls rebounded after the first set, in the final, and completely took over the net with 10 stuffs and eight rejects. The top hitters for the Eagles were Heidi Smith with 51 kills and Jaynel Mann with a hitting efficiency of 90 per cent. Melissa Peterson and Andie Watson were the top servers for the girls, making 100 per cent of their serves. The top blockers for the team were Katie Unraw with 21 stuffs and 11 rejects, Sara Croft with eight stuffs and 13 rejects and Karly Johnson with seven stuffs and eight rejects. Smith, Johnson, Maegan Onstad and Shealease Haupstein were the top passers with ratings over two. The next tournament for the Eagles will be a 12-team tournament in Saskatoon featuring the top teams in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. |
