A War Mother remembers

Florence Monteith, chosen as the War Mother for the Weyburn branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, holds the Certificate of Merit awarded to her late husband, Alex Monteith, shortly before his death in 1998. Alex was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Army Service Corps. He was a member of the first contingent of Canadian soldiers to arrive in England; he was also a long-time member of the Weyburn branch of the Legion, serving for over 50 years. Florence has served with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for nearly 20 years.

Comp students chow down on wings

Weyburn Comp students J.T. Phillips, Steven Schuck and Colton Jensen eat through plates of chicken wings during a two-minute heat at the Wing-A-Thon, a fund-raiser held for the Family Place on Wednesday evening. There were two teams from the Comp among the four who took part in the event, and they raised approximately $1,500 towards the Family Place and their programs. The top team at the competition were the Red Wings, consuming 382 wings on the night; about 1,800 wings were eaten altogether.
