Redcoat Rams split two games over the weekend

The Weyburn Redcoat Rams split a pair of games at home over the weekend, losing 12-2 to Estevan on Friday, then winning 10-4 on Sunday over Yorkton.

On Friday, the Rams opened up the scoring on a goal by Matt White assisted by Tanner Dusyk and Colin Reaney. Estevan then evened it up later in the period to make it 1-1 after one period of play.

Reaney then tipped in a point shot from Brodie Hepp and Mike Onstad to give the Rams a 2-1 lead in the second period. However, the Rams gave up four straight goals in the second period to make the score 5-2 for Estevan after two periods.

The collapse continued in the third with Weyburn giving up seven more goals in the third period to make the final score 12-2. Dale Skaftfeld and Tristan Haupstein shared the goaltending duties, combining to stop 60 shots between them.

The Rams bounced back on Sunday when Landon Minto opened the scoring on a pass from Mike Onstad and Brice Marshall to make it 1-0 after the first period. Weyburn and Yorkton each scored three goals in the second period to make 4-3 for the Rams.

Scoring for Weyburn was Brent Benson with assists from Minto and Marshall. Codie Nagy then scored from Dusyk and Braden Rudy and Chandler Dionne rounded out the second period scoring on assists from Kenton Fisher and C.J. Reaney. The Rams broke out with six goals in the third period to put away the Terriers.

Benson and Nagy each picked up two goals for the hat trick with Fisher and Rudy picking up single goals. Assisting on the goals was Onstad and Hepp each with two and singles from Dusyk, Rudy, R.J. Arts and Minto. Tristan Haupstein stopped 28 shots in goal for the 10-4 win.
