The Weyburn Sr. Devils have picked up their sixth straight win in the Big Six Hockey League after picking up two wins over the weekend. Weyburn is six games into the season and they are at the top of the standings in the league with their unbeaten record. "It is early still and anything can happen," warned the Devils manager Marvin Fox. On Friday night, the Devils went into Arcola and trounced the Combines 23-0. The Devils came into the game with only nine skaters and two goaltenders once again, but nearly everyone on the bench pick up a point. Scoring for Weyburn was Kenny King, Don Sauter, Christian Cote, Boyd Dennis, Willy Mason, Kim McIvor, Boyd Forseth and Corey Koski. Corey McEachran came up big for the Devils once again, making about 15 saves for the shut-out, while Weyburn fired 74 shots at the Arcola netminders. According to Fox, the key to the Devils' win on Friday was the consistent game by the players. "We again walked into Arcola with about nine skaters and two goaltenders and again the guys came together and played consistently," Fox said. On Saturday, the Wawota Flyers came to Weyburn to play a game at the Colosseum. Wawota has a strong team this year, but Weyburn was able to overcome the odds to win the game 4-1. Scoring for the Devils was Mason, Greg Lasko, King and Aaron Grohn while McEachran continued to play well in the Weyburn goal. The next game for the Weyburn Devils will be on Friday, Dec. 9 when they travel to Carlyle to play the Cougars. Carlyle is also expected to give Weyburn a good game. "We have Carlyle coming up and they beat Wawota so we aren't taking them lightly," Fox said. The next home game for the Weyburn Devils will be Sunday, Dec. 11 when the Wawota Flyers will return to the Colosseum for a rematch. |
