The Town of Yellow Grass has been busy in the past year working towards a project to put a cell in their lagoon, according to Mayor Bill Wilke. The town was given a $120,000 government grant in 2005 and the project began in the latter part of 2005 and will continue through 2006. The well projects that were started in 2004 in Yellow Grass wrapped up in 2005. Most of the project was done the previous year, but it was officially finished in 2005. Yellow Grass also held a Homecoming on July 1 with about 2,500 current and past residents coming to celebrate. Shortly after the Homecoming, on July 14, a devastating wind storm hit the small town. Trees were uprooted and a lot of damage was done because of the storm, but everyone came together for the clean-up. "The community pulled together just like they did for the homecoming," Wilke said. Wilke was proud to say that the town has run within its budget in the past year with the exception of the lagoon project, which took some financial rearranging. The year 2006 is looking even brighter for Yellow Grass. The lagoon project will be well underway and there are plans for more infrastructure improvements within the town, such as fixing some of the streets that are in bad condition. |
