Harvesting ice at Nickle Lake

Young Fellows Club members Sean Wallace, left, and Aaron Bohn, on the weights behind, help Kerry Dolter lift a block of ice out of the water and onto a pallet, during an ice harvesting session at Nickle Lake Regional Park on Saturday. The harvest was to help the Fifth Weyburn Scouts with their ice skating park project at the exhibition grounds. Another crew of volunteers were at the exhibition grounds working on the skating park walls and ticket booth. The ice harvest had to be halted for a time due to the thickness of the ice, but some larger and more powerful chainsaws were donated by Husqvarna to enable the harvesting to continue on the weekend.

The candidates are, from left, incumbent MP Ed Komarnicki of the Conservatives, Matthew Smith of the Green Party, Mike Haukeness of the NDP, and Lonny McKague of the Liberals. The forum, hosted by the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, was one of four around the riding last week in preparation for voting day on Monday, Jan. 23.
