The Weyburn Red Wings came off their Christmas break and took both games against the Estevan Bruins on Dec. 30 and Jan. 1, gaining four points and tying for second place in their league conference. In the game on Dec. 30, held in Estevan, the Red Wings were able to tie the score to 3-3 in the third period, then took the game with a goal in the overtime period. Scoring in the third period for the Red Wings were Michael Sieb with an assist by Marc Schweitzer during a short-handed play, Trenton Moore with assists by Chad Anderson and Jean-Sebastien Bergeron on a power play, and Stephen Simms with assists by Jared Smale and Anderson on a power play. The overtime goal that gave Weyburn the win came from Trenton Moore, unassisted. On home ice in the game on New Year's Day, the Red Wings overcame the Estevan Bruins again with a 4-1 win. While there were no goals in the first period for the Red Wings, there were several in the second period for the team. Brendon Vertefeuille earned the first goal for the Red Wings, with an assist by Smale and Schweitzer, additional goals came from Brayden Nargang with assists by Scott Doody and Simms, and a goal by Schweitzer on a power play, with assists by Anderson and Sean Bassingthwaite. The fourth goal for the Red Wings came in the third period by Anderson, with an assist by Craig Cornelson. The Red Wings will be playing three away games this weekend, as they go to La Ronge on Friday, Jan. 5, head to Flin Flon on Saturday, Jan. 6, and then finish off the weekend in Humboldt on Sunday, Jan. 7. |
