2006 Centennial year good one for the Village of Lang

The Village of Lang celebrated 100 years in 2006, and Mayor Allan Broderick said that the celebration "went over very good. We had our oldest citizen cut our cake, and at 102 years she was able to reflect on many memories of the early days of Lang."

Lang also saw some new families move into the village, and some moved out. "There are two houses that are empty in Lang," said Broderick, "and we are hoping to attract more new residents in the coming year."

There were two new councillors on village council for Lang in 2006, as both Dwight Schmidt and Anne Martin took new positions.

2006 was also the year that long-time Weyburn Review correspondent Ray Beck retired his pen. "We are still trying to find someone to be our correspondent," said Broderick.

There is some discussion that since Lang will be looking for a new town administrator that those correspondent duties could be part of the job description.

One of the things that will be an adjustment for many Lang residents is the loss of their school, which may close its doors in 2007. Students will have to be transported to Milestone, since both Lang and Milestone are in the Prairie Valley School Division.

Looking forward to 2007, Broderick hopes that new blood on council will help the town to grow a bit. "We are promoting our empty lots, we have a couple of serviced lots and non-serviced lots, and there are a lot of things on the go."
