The Weyburn Police Service reported a relatively quiet holiday season, with 68 charges laid as a result of over 500 vehicles being checked at CheckStops and by regular patrols in the city. A total of 59 charges were laid under the Traffic Safety Act,, two charges of driving while over .08, two charges of driving while impaired, and five 24-hour suspensions were issued. On Dec. 31, a 21-year-old woman from Weyburn was charged with assaulting a 24-year-old Weyburn man, who was not injured in the assault. The woman will make her first court appearance on Jan. 24. Police are investigating the theft of a vehicle and an incident of windows broken out of a vehicle. On Dec. 29, a red Pontiac Sunfire parked on the 400 block of Fifth Street had two windows broken out of it, with the damage believed to have occurred between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. A vehicle, a 1995 white Ford truck with Saskatchewan plate 623DXJ, was stolen on Dec. 27 from the 1800 block of Eaglesham Avenue. The owner said the truck was parked in their driveway the previous night, and it was discovered missing at 10:30 a.m. Anyone with information on these two offences are asked to contact the city police. Also on Dec. 27, a 19-year-old Weyburn man was charged following a traffic check. He had his licence suspended for 24 hours, was in possession of 15 grams of marijuana and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for unpaid tickets. He will make his first court appearance on Jan. 17. Police attended a two-vehicle accident on Dec. 24 in the 300 block of Bison Ave. There were no injuries , and damages were estimated at $2,500. A 20-year-old Weyburn woman was charged with unsafe backing under the Traffic Safety Act. On Dec. 19, a 33-year-old man from Fillmore was charged with resisting arrest following an incident at the Royal Hotel, and he will make his court appearance on Feb. 21. The Weyburn RCMP are asking for the public's assistance to solve a theft that took place approximately three miles north of Colgate. Some time between 8 a.m. on Dec. 21 and 8 a.m. on Dec. 22, an unknown vehicle entered a lease site and took approximately 1,400 litres of diesel fuel from a generator storage tank. The incident took place at the land description of NW-28-6-15-W2.
