Weyburn 4-H Club hold elections at first meeting

The Weyburn 4-H Club has been busy with many events taking place so far this year. The club held their elections at their first meeting.

The officers are president: Nevin Gordon; vice-president, Brodie Gutzke: secretary, Allan Kyrylchuk; treasurer, Kerri Kyrylchuk and reporter Robert Pineo. The phoning committee consists of Alexis Pederson, Randy Pederson, Braden Clarke and Tyson Gutzke.

The club has 35 members this year including four cloverbuds. The leaders are: general leader, Bev Gordon; beef project leader, Jeromy Charlton; beef project leaders: Mike and Carla Fellner and cloverbud leaders are Jeff and Tina Clay.

On Nov. 12, the club held a steer and heifer picking demonstration at Fellner's Ranch. The members were all able to learn something new and review how to select a good project.

The December meeting was a business meeting with fund-raising ideas being put forward. No definite ideas were selected, but members will report back the information about each project at their January meeting.

On Jan. 7, the 4-H club held their annual weighing of the steers in the Fed Calf Project at Holdstock Livestock. These weights are the beginning weights for the Rate of Gain Award that will be presented to the highest gaining steer at the club's awards night in July.

District 7 4-H curling was held on Jan. 5 and 6 at the Fillmore Curling Rink. It was hosted by the Fillmore-Francis Beef Club.

Weyburn's senior team was Travis Pederson, Tyson Loos, Ryley Gutzke and Robert Pineo. The junior team consisted of Braden Clarke, Reed Ivan, Logan Lazurko, Taylor Clarke and Alexis Pederson. The junior team was declared district champions and played in the regional playdowns in Carnduff this past weekend.

On Wednesday, the club held their annual 4-H meeting. The members received their project books and are also working on their speeches that have to be done for the Wednesday, Feb. 14 meeting.
