Local skaters compete at Weyburn First competition

Over 200 skaters took part in the Weyburn First competition on Friday and Saturday at the Colosseum and Sports Arena.

In the preliminary freeskate, Kelsie Dugan came in seventh place in flight four. Renae Giroux placed fifth in flight three. Brooke Erickson placed seventh and Shelby Van De Woestyne placed fourth in the second flight.

Dugan placed fifth in the preliminary elements flight five. Renae Giroux came in fifth place in flight five, while Erickson placed sixth and Van De Woestyne placed second in flight two.

The Weyburn Silver Blades placed fifth in the preliminary team event.

In the junior bronze freeskate Chelsea Jones placed fifth in flight one and she placed fifth in the junior bronze elements flight two.

Kym Berling placed sixth and Colleen Cretin placed fourth in the senior bronze freeskate flight one. Berling was fifth in the senior bronze elements flight one and Colleen Cretin placed fourth.

In the senior bronze team event, Weyburn was able to place second.

Charlene Cretin placed second in the junior silver freeskate and second in the junior silver elements. She also placed second in introductory interpretive.

Kelsie Dugan was the winner of the pre-introductory interpretive.

In the pre-novice short program, Ricki Giroux was the winner and Shirae Schidlowsky placed fourth.

Paloma Proszak won the gold medal in the novice short program.

Kelsey Nagy was the winner of the bursary skate with Proszak placing third, Jayme Nagy placing fourth, Ricki Giroux came in seventh and Schidlowsky placed eighth.

In the open team event, Weyburn Team One were the gold medal winners with Weyburn Team Two winning the silver medal.

Taylor Rooney was second, Emily Haupstein was third and Kylie Van De Woestyne was fourth in the Canskate spin, spiral and jump flight one. Reese Marshall was third and Alyssa Romanovitch was fourth in flight two. Annaliese Benning was third and Cassie Bobbitt was fourth in fight three.

Carley Evans came in fifth place in the Canskate spin, spiral and jump flight four and Kelsey Bax was sixth in flight six. In flight eight, Taylor Forseth-Hala came in second.

In the Canskate elements stage four, Benning came in third in flight one and Bax came in second in flight two.

Evans came in second place in the Canskate elements stage five flight one, while Forseth-Hala was second in the Canskate elements stage seven flight two.

Tessa's Canskate Cuties came in first and Susan's Sweethearts came in second in the Canskate stage four team elements. In the Canskate stage five team elements, Bridging Boots came in second place and, in the Canskate stage seven team elements, Bridging Blades came in third.
