The SJHL announced last week that Weyburn Red Wings goaltender Jason Lindner and forward Chad Anderson have been nominated for awards.

Lindner is up for the Graham Christie Memorial Award for the SJHL player who provides inspirational leadership and dedication to his team both on and off the ice.

This past season Lindner was chosen as the SJHL Goaltender of the Month once and Goaltender of the Week twice, with three honourable mentions. He volunteers his time at the Family Place, local schools in the area and officiates all levels of hockey in Weyburn.

Also nominated for the award are Justin Menke of the Yorkton Terriers, Daniel Moriarty of the Melville Millionaires and Russell Nielsen of the Humboldt Broncos. The Graham Christie Memorial Award carries a $500 bursary from the Christie family.

Anderson has been named a nominee for the Kresse-Kruger-Mantyka Award for the player who displays a high degree of hockey proficiency and shows evidence of attending school on a regular basis and maintaining above average academics.

In the 2006-2007 season, Anderson led the Red Wings in scoring and was third overall in the SJHL. He dressed for all 58 games and was a constant source on his team for leadership through words and actions.

He plays on all special teams and can fill any one of the three positions on forward. Academically, he maintained an 85 per cent average in high school and hopes to pursue something in the field of law or business. He has completed classes at the University of Regina and is enrolled at Athabasca College.

Also nominated for the Kresse-Kruger-Mantyka Award are Moriarty and Michael Trebish of the Yorkton Terriers.

This award comes with a $500 scholarship upon receipt of a registration certificate from a post-secondary educational institution. The scholarship must be utilized within one year of the completion of the award recipient's junior hockey eligibility.

The award winners will be announced by the SJHL in the coming weeks.
