EnCana still safe from a terrorist threat in SE area

Safety and security procedures for employees at the EnCana operations in the Weyburn oilfield continue with ongoing standard vigilance, even after an Al-Qaida threat to Canadian oil and natural gas facilities was reported in the media on Wednesday.

"Our employees work in an industry that has inherent risks," commented Alan Boras, Manager of Media Relations of EnCana. "Ergo we do have security measures in place for our employees, because we are generally concerned for their health and safety."

Boras was unable to comment on security procedures in place at EnCana, in order to keep them secure, and commented that "the threat was a very vague reference with nothing specific mentioned, and we will continue do what we have been doing."

One advantage that the employees have at the EnCana operation in the Weyburn oilfield is that due to the small rural community they know their neighbours. "Our employees watch out for each other, and our neighbours watch out for us," commented Boras.
