Multicultural Council meets, plans '08 Folkarama

The Weyburn and District Multicultural Council met for their annual general meeting on March 13, during which an annual report for 2006 was submitted.

Sandra Marcotte, vice-president of the council, stated that during the meeting that there was a summary of the activities that we did last year. Such activities included a mini Folkarama held with the Labor Council and Genealogical Society, attending the Heritage Fair at Assiniboia Park School, donating a Christmas wreath to the Family Place Festival of Trees, attending the Nation Builders Luncheon in Saskatoon, laying a wreath at the cenotaph on Remembrance Day and several other activities.

The Multicultural Council is planning ahead for their Folkarama. It will be held in March of 2008 and they are hoping to have a formal format for the event.

There are also plans to bring in different speakers to the community, to help the community keep in touch with different social issues. Marcotte commented that once these speakers are arranged, that the residents of Weyburn will be informed to times and dates.

"We always try to educate ourselves with multiculturalism, so that we can raise awareness that the dynamic of our city is going to change and teach others how to embrace those changes," said Marcotte.
