Comp Eagles volleyball player commits to U of R

Weyburn Comprehensive School volleyball player Meagan Onstad has committed to the University of Regina Cougars volleyball program this fall.

She has been a member of the Weyburn Comprehensive Eagles for the past three seasons and also has extensive provincial and club experience. She has been a member of the Cougar Volleyball Club since 2005 and also spent time with Team Saskatchewan from 2004-2006.

Onstad was invited to the 2006 Junior Women's Selection Camp, held last summer at the University of Regina.

Onstad captained Team Saskatchewan in both 2005 and 2006 and was also named captain of the Eagles in 2006. She has received numerous individual honours, including the Comp Coach's award in 2005 and 2006 and the Most Valuable Player award at the 2006 Top Eight Debate Volleyball Tournament.

"I chose to play with the U of R for many different reasons," Onstad said. "It has a good volleyball program with good coaches, players and facilities. At the U of R, I believe I have lots of opportunity to become a better individual and team player."

Onstad, who also played hockey for nine years in Weyburn, plans to study in the faculty of business administration. She is the daughter of Jim and Delinda Onstad and the granddaughter of Jack and Gloria Onstad and Jack and Myrna McIver.
