Top police officers get commissions in ceremony

Weyburn's top two police officers, and the chief of police in Stoughton, were recently given Commissioned Officer designations in a ceremony at Government House in Regina.

A total of 32 municipal police members from around the province received the designations in a ceremony with Lt.-Gov. Gordon Barnhart.

From Weyburn, they included Chief Rodney Horsman and Inspector Russell Chartrand, along with Chief Daryl Roach of the Stoughton Police Service.

"These commissions recognize the dedication and professionalism that characterize the police community in Saskatchewan," said Justice minister Frank Quennell.

The presentation of formal commissions have traditionally been made to RCMP in recognition of achieving a senior rank.

In 2005, the Police Act of 1990 was amended, making Saskatchewan the first province to present the Lieutenant-Governor's Commissions to senior ranking municipal police officers.
