DeLaet finishes in 10th at Northern California Classic

Professional golfer Graham DeLaet finished in 10th place at the Northern California Classic in Stockton, Calif., over the weekend on the second stop on the Canadian Tour.

DeLaet finished with a total score of 15-under-par, 273, five shots back of the winners. For placing 10th, he picked up $2,700 in prize money.

"This week I played well. I made a couple of mental mistakes, but all-in-all it was a good tournament," DeLaet said.

After the first round, DeLaet was sitting in a tie for 12th place out of 156 golfers with a score of four-under-par, 68, two shots back of the leader.

DeLaet began the round with a bogey on the par-three third hole before sinking birdies on the par-four fifth hole, par-four sixth hole and the par-five seventh hole. He shot 34 on the front nine.

On the back nine, DeLaet birdied the par-four 11th hole and par-five 16th hole of a score of two-under-par, 34.

In the second round on Friday, DeLaet opened the front nine shooting four-under-par, 32, and had a share of the lead at the turn.

"They didn't have any leader boards out there so I didn't really know where I was at. I played really well. I stumbled coming in, but that is part of the game," DeLaet said.

He began shaving strokes off his game on the first hole, where he birdied the par-four. DeLaet then took two more strokes off his score with an eagle on the par-five fourth hole; he then birdied holes five and six, before bogeying the seventh.

DeLaet shot a 35 on the back nine for a total score of five-under par for the round to sit in a tie for ninth place with a total score of nine-under-par, three shots back of the leader at 12-under-par.

He sank birdies on the par-five 10th and par-three 12th hole before bogeying the par-four 13th hole. DeLaet then birdied the par-three 14th, the par-four 15th and the 16th hole. He struggled on the par-three 17th hole, shooting a double bogey before finishing his round with a birdie on the par-five 18th hole.

DeLaet shot another five-under-par in the third round to put him in a tie for fourth placed going into the final round. He had a flawless round, sinking birdies on the par-four second hole, the third hole, the par-three eighth hole, the par-four ninth and the 13th hole.

"I didn't birdie any of the par fives so I felt I left three or four shots out there, but you can never complain with a bogey-free 67 that's for sure," DeLaet said.

The final round saw DeLaet shoot an one-under-par, 71, to finish alone in 10th place. He began the round with a birdie on the first hole, before double bogeying the third. He rebounded with birdies on the seventh and 10th holes before double bogeying the 11th. He ended the tournament with birdies on the 12th and 17th hole.

DeLaet will now take a break from the Canadian Tour and head back to his home in Boise, Idaho to play in the U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament on Thursday, May 3.
