Thirty students from the Weyburn Junior High recently participated in an on-line Scholastic Challenge, an educational challenge for Grade 8 students, with WJH student Zayne Lendrum earning the Provincial Champion trophy from the competition. Lendrum scored 76 per cent, the highest score at the WJH, with the challenge consisting of 100 multiple choice questions covering general knowledge, language and literature, history, geography, science, and logic, problem solving and mathematics. There were 10,000 students participating from all areas of Canadian, with the National average of the score being 53 per cent. From the students who participated at the WJH, 24 scored above the national average. Placing second in the school was Evan Pretzer with a score of 75 per cent, earning third was Justin Hippe with 73 per cent, and placing fourth was Dillan Diederichs with 67 per cent Other students scoring above the national average were Marshal Holliday, Devon Kwasnicia, Anita Lazurko, Jackson Pegg, Nathan Ferris, Sarah Unrau, Britney Alexander, Morgan Molde, Brent Benson, Lauren Holliday, Meagan Milatz, Chad Letkeman, Reid Jackson, Noelle Phillips, Alyssa Kimber, Elanne Krainyk, Toni Underwood, Cortnie Benning, Sydney Huebner and Janelle Jesse. These students will be receiving awards to recognize their achievement at the Weyburn Junior High Awards night, with Zayne Lendrum receiving a medal for his first placing in the school and a trophy for being Provincial Champion. |
