Fillmore girls b'ball team presented Hoopla banner

On Thursday, Larry LaFrentz, the executive director of the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association (SHSAA), traveled to Fillmore to present the "33" Central Falcons senior girls basketball team with the 2007 Sportsmanship banner from the 2007 Hoopla Championships recently held in Regina.

The citation by LaFrentz included praise for the players and their coach Tracey Ogden, who exemplified the high standard of deportment at Hoopla that the SHSAA promotes for its players and coaches.

The SHSAA handbook defines the honour as "the team best representing the ideals of sportsmanship at the provincial championship. A committee of SHSAA representatives, the host committee and the game officials observe the players, coaches, team personnel and spectators throughout the championship."

"These Hoopla committees have selected this team as the most sportsmanlike and suggest that, though it is the team which wins the award, it is indicative of the efforts of the entire school community."

In attendance were Southeast Cornerstone School Division chairperson Audrey Trombley and Southeast District High School Athletic Association commissioner of athletics Fred Jared, who also addressed the gathering.
