Celebrating tourism set for the the first week of June

Tourism Week for the Province of Saskatchewan will be held the first week of June, from Monday, June 4, to Friday, June 8. Brendan Manz, Member and Marketing manager of the Saskatchewan SE Tourism Association, said, "The whole point to this week is to spread awareness of tourism to residents."

This year, the focus is going to be centered on lobbying the provincial government. "We are hoping to have our MLAs see the financial difficulties our operators are facing," said Manz. Funding to tourism in Saskatchewan has been notably lower than other provinces, so the association wants to lobby for more funding.

The week starts with a provincial golf tourney between members of the association and Members of the Legislature on Monday, June 4, at Deer Valley. "It should be a nice relaxed setting to talk to them about increasing funding for tourism in the province," said Manz.

For Weyburn, the big tourism week event will occur on Wednesday, June 6. "We are planning to hold a barbecue at City Hall," said Manz. Plans have not been finalized with the Weyburn Tourism Committee yet, but more information will be provided when they are.

The week ends with the tourism association's annual barbecue in North Portal, bringing together employees and tourism committee members across the province together with those representing Minot and North Dakota.
