The Peewee Youngfellows baseball team began the 2007 season last week with one tie and two losses.

The season started on the road, traveling to Estevan on May 8. The Youngfellows got off to a slow start with the bats and could only muster three hits in six innings.

Weyburn lost the game 6-1. Pitching for the Youngfellows were Derrick Pouliot, Dylan Frey and Caley Bjork.

The Youngfellows were right back at it on Saturday, playing a doubleheader against the Moose Jaw Mets at Jubilee Park. Moose Jaw jumped on the Youngfellows quickly in the first game, scoring eight runs in the first two innings.

Weyburn's starting pitcher Lyndon Lumb settled in after that and kept Moose Jaw in check while the Youngfellows battled back. Moose Jaw hung on to win the game 13-10. Also pitching for Weyburn was Tucker Neuberger.

In the second game on Saturday's double-dip with the Mets, Weyburn was out to turn their fortune around and the desire to get in the win column was evident from the first inning.

Jordan Johner started on the hill for the Youngfellows and gave the Mets' hitters fits as he pitched four strong innings, striking out five and only giving up three hits and one run. Justin Chuckry also pitched for Weyburn, holding Moose Jaw off the scoreboard.

Weyburn was down 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth and final inning with bases full and only one out. Coach Todd Neuberger called a squeeze and Kendall Oliver got the bunt down and Trenton Kauf hustled home from third to tie the game at one.

The Youngfellows' only game this week took place on Tuesday against the Regina White Sox. Due to publication deadlines, however, results were not available.

Weyburn's next action will be in the three-day Legacy Tournament in Regina from Friday, May 18 to Sunday, May 20.
