Residents who are looking for cultural, recreational and sports activities to keep their children active during the summer will want to consider the Wheatland Souris Challenge. This camp is for children ages six to 12 in Weyburn who are looking for a chance to build self-esteem and friendships through social interaction. The Wheatland Souris Challenge is run by South East Saskatchewan Association for Culture, Recreation and Sport (SESACRS). They have a staff of four fun and energetic camp leaders who are provincially certified in Play Leadership. SESACRS provides youth and children with an array of activities throughout the hot months of summer. The activities are very broad and flexible, including various elements of sports, arts and drama, nature and several other entertaining activities. The Wheatland Souris Challenge offers two weeks of opportunities to get away for camp. The first camp will run July 9 to 27 and the second camp will go July 30 to August 17. The camp runs Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the weeks it is run. The cost is $60 per child for each individual week, $120 per child for two weeks or $150 per child per child for three weeks. A learn-to-swim program is included in the fees and each child will receive a free Wheatland Souris Challenge T-shirt from attending the camp. Registration deadline is Friday, June 22 and all children must be pre-registered to participant. There will be a registration event held this Saturday, May 26, at the Weyburn Leisure Centre from 1 to 4 p.m. for parents and children to learn more. |
