Cancer Society's Relay for Life taking place June 1-2

The Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be taking place on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2 at River Park.

There are 33 teams confirmed for Relay for Life, slightly less than the organizers' goal of 40 set in early December.

The evening will kick off at 7 p.m. with the victory lap for survivors, followed by the participants hitting the track from their night-long relay. The luminary ceremony will be taking place at 10 p.m., with the Souris School students helping to set up the luminaries on Friday afternoon.

Bands will be playing in the gazebo for the general public starting with Reminisce from 7:30-8 p.m., followed by a frozen T-shirt contest for the participants. Where's Waldo will be playing from 8:45-9:45 p.m. and Mid-life Crisis from 10:30-11:30 p.m.

In the early evening there will be face-painting and children's games. The Chuckwagon and Big Blue Ice Cream Bus will be selling food during the Relay.

Activities, information and massages will be available to the participants throughout the night at the Smart Shop. Participants can earn Relay Bucks for taking part in activities during the night, which can be used towards purchasing silent auction items.

The goal this year is to raise $75,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society through Relay for Life. All of the money raised will go towards research to find a cure for cancer.
