DQ Blizzards battle hard at annual Regina tourney

Last weekend in Regina, the Weyburn D.Q. Blizzards played in the annual Queen City Classic tournament.

Their first game on Friday night was against the Saskatoon Lazers. Good pitching, a strong defence and timely hitting led to an 8-0 win after five innings for the Blizzards.

Game two on Saturday had the girls playing the Regina Fighting Saints. They played a tight game, only allowing one run in five innings of play. However, a series of errors in the sixth inning cost them four runs, leaving Weyburn with a 5-1 loss.

A second loss occurred in game three against the Regina Royals. Weyburn held the Royals to an one-run lead until the top of the seventh inning. Weyburn got on the bat and brought in four runs giving them a 7-4 lead over Regina.

Unfortunately, the Royals also came alive, scoring four runs to give them an 8-7 win over the Blizzards.

The Blizzards played the Southeast Angels in their fourth game of the tournament. They rallied hard, swapping run-for-run, but came up short, losing 14-10.

Team members for the D.Q. Blizzards include Alaina Flaaten, Jordan Mallory, Brooke Peterson, Brooke Kwochka, Erica Williams, Alyssa Postnikoff, Ashley Ziegler, Morgan Gibson, Jayme Nagy, Chelsea Ziolkowski and Christie Kimber.

The team is coached by Ken Mallory, Jeff Flaaten and Gerry Nagy. Next weekend will see the team in Winnipeg for the annual International Classic.
