Taiwan study exchange visits Weyburn Rotarians

The Weyburn Rotary Club hosted four guests from Taiwan last week, a Group Study Exchange (GSE) from the Taiwan Rotary Club.

The local district of the Rotary Club had already sent five people to visit Taiwan in April, and the Taiwan team had come to visit Canada. Team Leader Arthur Wang is a Rotarian, with the other team members not being Rotarians so that a different background is represented.

Allie Liu, Christine Tsu, Stanley Kuo and Arthur Wang visited the Oil and Gas show and the home care system during their stay in Weyburn. "I haven't seen such a huge show in a small town," said Wang, who is an international buyer.

"We can tell Weyburn is a potential city in Canada," said Wang, commenting on the fact that there were many international companies in Weyburn for the Oil and Gas show. Team member Allie Liu, who works in a distributor for Taiwan Nissan, was also very interested in the oil show, especially visiting the truck dealer booths.

The team also visited the home care system in Weyburn, as home care in Taiwan is not that popular. "We visit here and try to learn more about Canada," said Tsu, who is a TV producer in Taiwan. "We have home care systems in big cities because the budget from the government is limited."

Tsu was amazed that Weyburn could have its own home care with a population of just 10,000. She noted that the clients can get the service in just one week and that there is no long waiting list, "that is most important."

"It is incredible, a well-done home care system can help the government to save more cost in the hospital and also can make clients feel more comfortable." Tsu mentioned that she would be using her experiences here to talk to the Taiwan government about their home care system when she gets home.

Mal Barber, member of the Weyburn Rotary Club, acted as guide for the Taiwan Exchange Group Study. "They were an exceptionally bright, young group of people. This group had a responsibility to sell their country to us and they were really pleasant to talk to."

"They were really able to gather information from all the places they visited," said Barber. The Taiwan Exchange Group Study had been in the country for a month, touring Manitoba and Saskatchewan and seeing everything related to the country's economy.

Barber added that the group "gave us a really good presentation on Taiwan to the Weyburn Rotary Club, and to the kind of employment and culture they have there."
